Harrick Scientific Products presented a big challenge. Redesign a website that had a complex product catalog of not-so-typical items that weren't necessarily to be presented in the same way, depending on how they were to be used. Just that description alone is a clue as to how this was done.We like to get things organized and easy to find on any website we design, but this was possible in the case of Harrick. So we did as much standardization as possible with the option to make some content unique in its presentation as well as how was related or connected to other content. When you browse the live site, you'll have a better idea of what we are describing here.In addition to the complex array of products and accessories, we had the assignment of creating a visual style for the site. Although it was industry-specific, we always want create a universal appeal and familiarity for visitors. That was probably the biggest difference from the existing site to the redesign. Harrick had already put together most of the content, it was just problematic for them to make updates and additions since the site was built on ColdFusion and not designed with content management in mind.Along with the design and development of CMS sites, we provide a good bit of training to our clients for them to take full advantage of the tools within the site. The time taken to get our clients familiar with the administrative interface, or "admin" as its called, is not long- usually about a half an hour to get logged-in and started. After that, we provide answers to questions as they get more involved and begin to add, edit, and manage content. Typically the best approach is that introduction and then simply use the site. Average computer aptitude such as using word processing software is often sufficient to become productive.Harrick's products are used by a diverse group of people in science, research industry, education, and businesses around the world. The site averages 65 visitors a day and compared to direct traffic (people that already know the site address), and referring sites, has a 62% rate of being found in search engines.
